PowerUp Program supports students between the ages of 10-21 to realize their personal power and build leadership skills. Participants support each other to identify their core values, set and maintain goals, use their voice to communicate with authority, and hone their collaborative leadership skills. This program is evidence-based, fun and youth-centered.

The Purpose

  • Build resilience, enhanced self-compassion, sense of identity, and recognition of personal values and assets

  • Realization of social and academic goals

  • Enhanced communication, conflict resolution, and collaborative problem solving skills

  • Create a sense of connection, empathy and shared power with other young people

The Process:

  • 14 sessions during or after-school sessions (longer programs are 24 sessions)

  • We focus on our PowerUp five point process:

    • Who are we and how can we best present our true selves to the world?

    • Who has paved the path for us?

    • How can we live in alignment with our values?

YOUTH REVIEWS:

I never ever thought about my values before. This program changed the way I think about myself!
(This program) is like our safe space. We all talk to each other about anything. You’d never know that some of us had beef with each other outside of here.
Now I know how to break a goal down into smaller chunks. This will help me to reach my goals and help other girls to reach theirs

Want to build school culture? Let students lead the way in this exciting art program where youth design and create a public mural  while practicing social emotional strategies and art skills. Offered during or after school, youth enhance their leadership skills, practice collaborative problem solving and self-expression while having a blast and beautifying their school.

The Purpose:

  • Enhance school culture through a student-centered mural project.

  • Increase student sense of belonging and connection to their school and peers.

  • Increase positive self-identity, Growth Mindset and recognition of personal assets

  • Develop artistic and leadership skills

  • Opportunity to showcase their identities, strengths, passions, community and personal power.

The Process:

  • Youth examine the core values, mission and culture of their school, identifying ways they are played out in the day-to-day.

  • Guided by professional artists, youth collaboratively identify a mural theme that reflects these core values and school culture.

  • Youth design and realize each step of the artistic process, creating a customized and detailed mural on the school's interior wall.

  • Youth participate in an "Unveiling" in which they share their personal journey, and the purpose and impact of the mural on themselves individually as well as their school.

YOUTH REVIEWS:

"We got to participate in drawing and creating the mural. It was fun and it increased our interest in the school. We could show off what we're doing and how we're improving."

"I liked the teamwork- we agreed to what we were going to do and we all knew what we were doing."

"I didn't think I could do this, but I did. I feel like a real artist."
